In order to train as a teacher, you need to be a graduate, preferably with a 1st, or a 2.1, although applicants with a 2.2 will be considered. Degrees must be from a United Kingdom Higher Education Institution or equivalent.
Your degree should have the majority of its content in the subject you wish to teach. If your degree does not relate directly to the subject you wish to teach, you will need to undertake a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course before you can begin your School Direct Programme.
You need at least a C grade in both English and Maths GCSE, and in Science for Primary.
Original certificates will need to be provided before commencing the course.
You will be required to pass the literacy and numeracy skills tests if you are offered a place; these must be completed before the course begins.
You will need two references which describe your skills and qualities, as well as any relevant experience working with young people.
You will also be required to have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check before starting your training which verifies your suitability to work with young people.
In addition to the specific entry requirements detailed, the following DfE Requirements must be met.
